Gaming: iPhone Finger

Filed under: Gaming, iPod Family, iPhone TUAW reader Alex Cahiz pointed us to this New Creatives page showing a design for Van's Finger Fracture for iPhone and iPod touch. It's hard to tell how close this design is to being a reality -- whether it's just a concept design or whether there will be a real product. I couldn't find any further details at the Vans website but if it is for reals, it looks like it would rock. According to the writeup, the game uses the touch screen to steer your skateboard and allow you to pick various equipment to perform tricks and earn points. It's unclear whether the accelerometer would be used as well. To read more as well as to see other screen designs, pop over to the New Creatives website. [Via NotCot] Readers suggest that these are lifted screen shots--so we're going to go with either "Concept Design" or "Internet Hoax" for now. Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

iTunes 24-Hour Movie Rental Limit Hacked, then

The 24-hour limit on watching Apple's new iTunes movie rentals was briefly hackable. Gizmodo reported early Thursday that simply playing with your system time -- either setting it forward before watching a movie, or backward after watching a movie -- confused iTunes and allowed effectively unlimited watching time for your movies. In a follow up report, the site noted that Apple has now disabled that workaround, restoring the company's 24 hour time limit on watching movies.

This post has also been updated since its original publication with additional information. The Apple TV just got a whole lot more useful. Steve Jobs unveiled a major feature update to the Apple TV today during his Macworld keynote address in San Francisco that aims to transform the device from a TV-based iTunes media viewer to a more full-featured media-on-demand device. The hardware will remain the same, with the entry-level 40GB model dropping from $300 to $230, but a free software upgrade--available in two weeks--will add the following functionality: ...

Review: XtremeMac MicroShield & MicroShield Plus for iPod

Rather than reiterate Tuneshell s pros and cons, it suffices to note that MicroShield is a hint more protective and a hint nicer of a package because of its Click Wheel film and hook, which are superior in our view to Tunewear s non-existent Wheel coverage and generic lanyard necklace; some users may prefer the neck accessory to the belt- or bag-ready one, though. You still get all the same top, bottom, side, face, and back coverage, plus

First Looks: JAVOedge JAVOLeather Case for

Somewhat like Griffin's Elan Convertible cases, JAVOedge's JAVOLeather Case for iPhone ($30) is a two-piece leather iPhone holder with a detachable front lid that uses two magnets and a snap to stay in place. Removed, the lid exposes the iPhone's ear speaker, screen, and Home button, while the rest of the semi-reinforced case covers everything save for iPhone's top and side corners, and most of its bottom around the Dock Connector, speaker, and microphone.

Review: Otter Products Armor and Defender Cases for iPod nano

The results of our testing of these cases were bittersweet. Otter s Defender cases are some of the best we ve seen for their various iPod models strong values at $30, with generally very smart designs and incredible protectiveness. Unfortunately, the Armor series cases had some issues, each proving waterproof but more problematic in controls than past versions when submerged, and leaving us underwhelmed for their $40-50 asking prices.
