iPoll: How many iPods have you

Since Macworld 2008 didn't announce any new iPods, I thought this would be a good time to survey iPod owners. Are you on your first, second, third, or fourth iPod? Apple has sold more than 100 million of the little buggers, so I'm a little curious about how ...

Mister Jalopy Builds World's Biggest iPod Dock [IPod]

Now there's no way we'll be dancing that jig from the Apple iPod commercials with this plugged in our ears. Mister Jalopy from Hoopty Rides has created this awesome iPod-integrated computer setup using a $15 Farnsworth radio cabinet. It's equipped with... ...a Sansui tuner, a replacement Panasonic turntable, a Griffin AirShark, an 8 port USB hub, a cheap-o LCD panel, a Griffin iMic, a Griffin Powermate, a Logitech wireless keyboard transmitter, a power strip, a Griffin AirClick, a Sony bookshelf speaker, a Mac Mini and enough patch cables to encircle the world 7 times. It's essentially a mega-machine built to convert vinyl records to digital music files, but as you can see, it also appears to be quite possibly the world's biggest iPod dock. The coolest part seems to be that he managed to transfer the iPod's controls over to the Farnsworth's radio preset buttons! Major kudos to Mister Jalopy for building this awe-inspiring mash-up of old and new. You can read up on how he did it in the next issue of MAKE Magazine.
Review: Capdase Classy Leather Case for

As one of several leather cases to be released under the oft-inaccurate Classy Leather Case name, Capdase s Classy Leather Case for iPhone ($15) is a playthrough sleeve-style leather iPhone holder with a wide open face and a loose bottom, side, and back design. Unlike most such cases we ve seen, the case has no internal reinforcement save for its meager face coverage, so it sags a little on the sides and back whether an iPhone s

EU Closes iTunes

The European Union has closed its investigation into iTunes Store sales following Apple's announcement that it plans to introduce a unified European pricing scheme within six months. The E.U. investigation began in April 2007 after a U.K. consumer organization complained that British iTunes Store customers were paying more for music downloads than other European customers.

Hands On iriver Aplayer vs. iPod nano: Thinner, More Gorgeous

After seeing the sexy press shot of iriver's new flash-based Aplayer (which also crams in voice recording and an FM tuner), we totally couldn't resist making the iriver guys pull it out of the case to stack up to a 2nd-gen nano we had on hand. Results? Judge for yourself. They were really scant on details, but we did squeeze out a date of first quarter this year, so we should it within the next couple of months.

Hacks: Caption Crunch loads custom messages onto your

Filed under: iPod Family, iPhone Remember I wrote about that bunch of undocumented SpringBoard prefs? Ecamm has grabbed the bull by the horns (or possibly by the implanted iPod dock) and produced "Caption Crunch", a simple utility that adds a custom message to your iPhone using the fake time preferences. Caption Crunch works by modding the com.apple.springboard.plist file that gets stored on your personal computer in the backup files and actually talks to your iPhone and convinces it to upload a new copy of the prefs file. The iPhone will perform a "pseudo restore" and may reboot. I tested on an iPod touch and it worked great. Cool stuff indeed--but even cooler that Ecamm seems to have taken Mac/iPhone communication up to a new level. No Jailbreak necessary. Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
